TRANSITIONING FROM ALERT LEVEL 4

We’ll soon be moving to alert level 3. PCBUs need to start getting ready now for a safe return to work.  You can find more information about what a return to alert level 3 will look like on the Covid19 website.

Under alert level 3 more, but not all, businesses can start to operate. However they must take health and safety measures to keep their workers safe. You can find high-level details on what workplace activities are permitted at different alert levels on Business.govt.nz(external link). You can find information below about what our approach will be as the work health and safety regulator.

CHANGES TO THE EMPLOYMENT RELATIONS ACT WHILE THE EPIDEMIC NOTICE IS IN PLACE

The government has decided that some rules for collective bargaining will be temporarily modified in the Employment Relations Act while the current Epidemic Notice is in place.

These changes extend timeframes involved in collective bargaining that would otherwise apply, and allow unions to notify an alternative ratification process if the previous ratification process is now impracticable (e.g. in person meetings).

CALL FOR ALL SEASONAL WORKERS TO RECEIVE LIVING WAGE

The Amalgamated Workers Union (AWUNZ) says the government should pay the living wage to seasonal orchard workers.

The living wage is the income necessary to provide workers and their families with the basic necessities of life.

AWUNZ General Secretary Maurice Davis believes seasonal orchard workers need an incentive to work.

UNION SAYS FLETCHERS CEO AND BOARD OUT OF TOUCH

Amalgamated Workers Union New Zealand (AWUNZ) has described a take it or leave it offer from Fletcher Building Management to staff as disgraceful.
AWUNZ National Secretary Maurice Davis said the union was more than disappointed with the scheme Fletcher Building had put to staff.

FUTON HOLGAN

After some long discussions with Fulton Hogan, yesterday we were able to tell our members that we agreed with the proposal that the company had put out to the workforce. It was never going to be easy for the leadership team to come up with a package while they were basically 90% shut.... thanks to our members and others who backed the plan.

CTU you should talk to the union representing the majority of the workers before looking for things that aren't there! How about you go chase Fletcher's rather than a good employer?
